State season of domestic cricket released

An expanded Twenty20 competition is expected to be the highlight of this summer’s State domestic cricket season.

The season schedule, released today, sees the expanded round-robin Twenty20 competition begin on January 11 and end with a final on February 3.

“The inaugural domestic Twenty20 cricket competition was popular last year and brought crowds back to the domestic game. We expect this year’s competition to build on that success,” New Zealand Cricket CEO Martin Snedden said.

“This year’s competition will feature new State Twenty20 uniforms which will help add to the appeal of the fast paced matches.”

The State Twenty20 schedule is interwoven with the State Shield (One-Day) schedule and teams will meet in one-day matches and Twenty20 matches only days apart.

The State Championship begins in mid-November with the first two rounds to be played in Canterbury to take advantage of the normally settled weather at this time, and NZC’s grounds and facilities at Lincoln University.
