Northern in Control at Seddon Park

The Northern Knights have already secured first innings points and lifted themselves off the bottom of the table on day three of their State Championship match against the Canterbury Wizards at Seddon Park.

Starting the day on 64 for two the Canterbury batsman went on to get 265, still 165 runs short of Northern’s first innings total.

Peter Fulton’s patient 84 off 263 balls was Canterbury’s hightest individual contribution, with Johannes Myburgh’s 61 the only other score of any substance.

It was Northern’s first innings batting star, Kane Williamson, who troubled the Canterbury batsmen with his off-break bowling, taking three for 53.

Northern's other spin bowler, Bruce Martin, kept things tight taking two for 30 off 25 overs, including an incredible 17 maidens, with Tim Southee and Joseph Yovich also picking up two each.

Northern will look to build on their lead and work themselves into a position where they can secure outright victory as they resume tomorrow on 45 for two.
