India demolish Zimbabwe

India have crushed Zimbabwe by 161 runs in the third match of the Videocon Triangular Series at Harare.

Following their heavy loss to the BLACKCAPS in the opening game last week, things looked brighter for Zimbabwe early in the day. After winning the toss and electing to field, the home team began well with Heath Streak taking the wicket of Venugopal Rao in the first over.

Streak finished with the impressive figures of one for 32 off his 10 overs, helping his team restrict India to 226 for six off their 50 overs. Mohammad Kaif top scored for India, with his 65 coming off 122 deliveries.

Chasing a reachable score, hopes were high that Zimbabwe could put up a good fight with the bat. But any thoughts of a tight game were soon dashed as the home side was dismissed for 65 in the 25th over.

Irfan Pathan was the chief destroyer for India, taking five for 27 off his 10 overs. Streak was the only batsman to show any resistance. He was stranded on 18 when the last wicket fell.

Zimbabwe will face the BLACKCAPS in the next game of the series at Bulawayo on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the New Zealanders will be without coach John Bracewell, who has returned home after the death of his mother-in-law.
