Strong all round perform hands Blaze victory

The Wellington Blaze beat Northern Spirit by 25 runs in the Action Women’s one-day competition at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

A strong all-round batting display saw the visitors pile on 284 for six in their 50 overs.

Half centuries from Sarah Bradbury (61) and Liz Perry (50), along with solid contributions from Megan Wakefield (43) and Renee Moffitt (42) helped set up the formidable total.

Northern seamer Hannah Beatson was the best of the attack taking two for 32 off ten overs.

The Northern reply started strongly with Natalie Dodd and Krista Neilson putting on 109 for the opening wicket they couldn't maintain momentum and fell short at 259 for six in seeing out their 50 overs.

A quickfire 49 off 39 from Nielsen gave the home side a glimmer of hope but she was left stranded as wickets tumbled at the other end.

White Ferns duo, Sophie Devine and Lucy Doolan, collected two wickets apiece for the Blaze.
