Spirit get one over Magicians

The Northern Spirit have claimed a 76 run victory over the Canterbury Magicians in the two sides’ second One-Day match at Cobham Oval, Whangarei.

The Spirit claimed revenge for their loss on Saturday with a convincing performance with both bat and ball. Having posted 230 for six in the first innings, they then proceeded to dismiss the defending champions for 154 in the 42nd over.

Key to the outcome was part-time bowler Anna Peterson. The handy off-break bowler snared five wickets from her ten overs, which went for just 24 runs.

Amy Satterthwaite put up the most resistance with 63 from 86, while Frances Mackay and (25) and Meg Kendal (31) also chimed in.

It wouldn’t be enough however, as Nicola Browne had earlier led the Spirit past 200.

The 29 year-old made an unbeaten 76 from 81 balls and alongside a number of cameos from her teammates, maintained control over the Magicians bowling attack.

Natalie Dodd (33), Kerr-Anne Tomlinson (30), and Peterson (29) were the main other contribtuors, as the Spirit set a big and in this case unreachable target.

Erin Bermingham was the biggest threat with the ball and finished with figures of three for 40 from ten.
