Will Young comes of age in Abu Dhabi

Central Stags batsman Will Young produced his highest List A score of 134, but it wasn’t enough to spare New Zealand A from defeat in the third one-dayer against Pakistan A.

The 25-year-old was forced to patiently rebuild the innings after early wickets, before striking 11 fours and four sixes in a 141-ball knock, which he later described as one of his very best.

“I managed to set the platform and then have some fun at the end which is the way I want to play my cricket at the top of order - so I’m really happy with that,” he said.

“It wasn’t looking too flash at the halfway stage, but we managed to dig in with a couple of partnerships and the old cliche of having wickets in hand at the end rang true.”

With BLACKCAPS coach Gary Stead watching on from the stands, Young posted a polished maiden century to help the tourists through to 265-8 from their 50 overs.

“I’d rate that as one of my best innings … it was about getting over the little mental lapse at the 40-run mark," he added.

“There were a few out of the middle there that felt really good, so a pleasing day for me, but disappointing for the team.”

It was Pakistan international Mohammad Rizwan who once again proved the thorn in New Zealand A’s side as he produced his second unbeaten century of the series to secure the seven-wicket win.

The victory completed a three-nil one-day series win for Pakistan A, which followed New Zealand A’s 2-1 triumph in the T20 series.

“It’s certainly been a challenge over here in the heat, the foreign conditions and the slow wickets.

“Its been full of learnings which is what A cricket is all about - for the domestic guys to be tested at the next level and push for honours higher up," Young said.

New Zealand A will finish their tour with two four-day games against Pakistan A starting on

The BLACKCAPS will name the final additions to their one-day squad next week.
