At Bay Oval in Mt Maunganui, Northern Districts took a two-wicket win off last season's runner-up, the Canterbury Magicians who now find themselves with a lot of work to do to catch the leaders from the bottom of the table at the halfway mark of this season's campaign.
Youngster Izzy Sharp's 45 was the top score in the modest Canterbury total of 175 after they had elected to bat, ND's Auckland acquisition Jesse Prasad influential with her new career-best and economical 3/25.
A good platform from the ND top order saw the hosts chase that down with eight overs to spare, despite losing eight wickets in a nervy innings that prevented them from claiming a bonus point.
The teams will meet again tomorrow under lights, in Round Six of 10.
