Sent in at Hastings' Cornwall Park, the Canterbury Magicians got off to a rousing start to the season, holding off a determined chase from their hosts the Central Hinds to secure a seven-run win in their first Twenty20 outing.
Opener Frankie Mackay set the platform for the Magicians, pelting 64 off just 52 balls as the visitors took a first-ball duck to captain Amy Satterthwaite in their stride.
Mackay, who struck 11 boundaries, got late support from newly capped WHITE FERN Thamsyn Newton, whose run-a-ball 44 included five fours and a six, helping the Magicians on the way to posting a daunting 149/4 before being bowled by fellow young WHITE FERN Hannah Rowe.
Central Hinds opener Michelle Mitchell set the tone for a good chase with a dominant 67 off only 50 balls, including three sixes and nine fours.
Kate Broadmore added 35 at first drop, but Rachel Candy took 3-26 as the Hinds collapsed from 122/1 to 142/9 to thwart themselves at the death.
