Hearts edge out Hinds

The Auckland Hearts have pulled off a two wicket victory over the Central Hinds in their One Day match at Queen Elizabeth Park, Masterton.

Chasing 154 for victory, the Hearts managed to reach the target after 44.1 overs, but only had two wickets in hand.

Opener Victoria Lind led the pursuit with a solid 67 from 101 balls. It continues a strong run of form from the captain, who took her side to within ten runs of the target before being bowled by Hannah Rowe.

Amidst a number of low scores, there was one other batsman who stood tall for the Hearts in Holly Huddleston.  The number seven made 41 to ensure her side the victory.

Maneka Singh and Hannah Rowe were both particularly effective with the ball, picking up three key wickets each.
Earlier Rachel Priest had been the driving force behind the Hinds’ total.

A number of batsmen looked good on their way to double figures, but Priest was the only one who managed to go on, accumulating a sensible 56 from 81 balls.

It helped her side to reach the 150 mark, but the Hinds would have felt it was still well short of what they required.

Regina Lili’I did the most damage with the ball, snaring three wickets in her seven overs for 27 runs.

The two teams play again on Sunday.
