Ford Trophy round-up - March 17

The first rain in weeks for much of the country meant all three round seven Ford Trophy matches were abandoned, and the Aces, Knights and Wizards have sealed their spots in the Finals series.

Play was only possible at the University Oval in Dunedin, where the Otago Volts v Canterbury Wizards match was called off after 39.5 overs of the first innings. In that time the Wizards reached 159 for 4, with George Worker scoring 73 not out, and Volts debutant Sam Blakely taking two wickets.

The two matches between the Northern Knights and Auckland Aces in Auckland and the Central Stags and Wellington Firebirds in New Plymouth were abandoned without a ball being bowled.

All teams receive two points for the abandoned matches, which means the Aces, Knights and Wizards will finish in the finals series places, while the other spot and finishing order will be finalised in the final round robin matches on Wednesday.
