England win fifth Twenty20

The England Women have won the fifth and final Twenty20 match against the White Ferns at Queens Park in Invercargill by five wickets.

Chasing 110 to win, England looked comfortable for the majority of their innings and made the winning runs after 18.5 overs.

The White Ferns were put into bat after losing the toss and got off to a good enough start reaching 75 for two after 13 overs. Opener Suzie Bates made 20, before Sara McGlashan and Amy Satterthwaite put on 50 for the third wicket.

McGlashan top-scored with 29, closely followed by Satterthwaite with 25, but when both fell in quick succession the run-rate slowed down dramatically.

An impressive 21 not out from Liz Perry helped the White Ferns finish at 109 for six after 20 overs.

Man of the match Anya Shrubsole again posed problems for the Kiwis and finished with figures of two for seven off four overs. .

It was team effort with the bat for England who successfully chased down the total with seven balls to spare.

Four players finished in the twenties with Sarah Taylor top-scoring with 24. Jenny Gunn finished off the game with a four to see England victorious with five wickets and seven balls in hand.

Morna Nielsen was superb with the ball for the White Ferns and finished with figures of four for 10 from four overs.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough.

England finished the Twenty20 series four nil victors. The two sides meet for the first of three ODIs in Christchurch on Thursday.
