Canterbury Magicians Secure Home Final

A stellar performance with the ball from Sarah Burke saw the State Canterbury Magicians upset the State Wellington Blaze to leap into first place and book a home final against the same opposition.

Burke took three of 23 off four overs as Wellington, chasing 135 could only manage 125 in reply.

Canterbury innings was build around contributions from Maria Fahey 27, Amy Satterthwaithe 30 and Michelle Mitchell’s quick fire 21.

It was a true team performance with the bat as no individual dominated but most made a contribution.

Sian Ruck was the pick of the Blaze bowlers taking two for 19 with Lucy Doolan and Aimee Dodd picking up one wicket each.

The Wellington innings was built around a solid 51 from their consistent performer, Sophie Devine.

Their other form player Lucy Doolan and Megan Wakefield made 27 and 20 respectively but the tight Canterbury bowling proved the difference on the day.

The State Canterbury take the four points and move to top spot, earning themselves a home final on January 24.
