Only 5.4 overs of play was possible in a match that had already been reduced to 41 overs at Hagley Oval before weather called a halt to proceedings between Canterbury and the Wellington Firebirds in round three Ford Trophy.

The match had been delayed until after lunch on a sodden day all around the South Island, and there were no surprises when Canterbury captain Andrew Ellis elected to bowl first in the conditions.
It was fun while it lasted for pace bowler Ed Nuttall, who sent two of Michael Pollard’s stumps flying in the third over, then took out Firebirds captain Michael Papps, caught by Leo Carter on 21.
Nuttall had two for 15 when Logan van Beek muscled in and sent Craig Cachopa back for his second duck in as many games.
The Firebirds were 32 for 3 when the match was abandoned in the sixth over as rain came back with a vengeance — leaving points shared, and unbeaten Canterbury still top of the Ford Trophy table after three rounds, with the Mondiale Auckland Aces having suffered a loss up north at the hands of the SKYCITY Northern Knights.
There was no result in the other round three match, play between the Devon Hotel Central Stags and SBS Bank Otago Volts abandoned without a ball bowled at a murky Pukekura Park. The forecast is set to improve in time for the next round.
