Auckland U19 beat ND U19 by six wickets

Scores

Auckland's leg-spin wizard Adithya Ashok is causing batsmen havoc already after just one day of the U19 Nationals.

After fellow NZ U19 spinner and Auckland captain Lucas Dasent elected to bowl, Ashok ripped the heart out of the ND line up with a standout 4-14 off 10 overs, including two maidens.

Opener Will O'Rourke was almost as lethal in picking up 3-13 off eight, also including two maidens, as the pair conspired to reduce ND to 116 all out.

Left-armer Dasent himself picked up the final wicket in the 47th over, after ND had fought a long, hard battle for their modest total in windy conditions.

Only one of ND's top eight batsmen had broken into double figures - opening batsman Ben Pomare with 20. There was some doughty application, however, with Marcel Marconi fighting for an hour for his nine runs.

Luke Trigg finally got going at nine with a knock of 44 that spared a few extra blushes.

Defending champion Auckland was never going to be troubled chasing down 117 for victory and did so in positive fashion, in just 21.2 overs for a comfortable bonus point.
