Cricket has been a part of Jess Watkin's life from a very young age. Growing up she would score her brother's backyard games, not allowed to play in the early days by her sibling!
However, with the aid of a few cheeky throw-downs from Dad, Watkin's talent with bat and ball was soon on display in the backyard for the family to see.
After representing Central Districts at age-group level and impressing with her power hitting, she was quickly added to the WHITE FERNS tour party to the UK.
Watkins made an early splash in international cricket, starring in the opening match of the northern tour scoring 77* off just 38 balls, the highest score by a WHITE FERN on debut. Her 142-run partnership with Suzie Bates was also a New Zealand record.
Watkins has also shown talent at the bowling crease, her off-spin a handy asset, especially in the shortest format of the game.
