Australia claim T20I one

The WHITE FERNS have fallen in the first T20I against Australia, coming up 17 runs short in their pursuit of 139 in vice-captain Amy Satterthwaite’s 100th T20 International appearance.

Scorecard

After winning the toss, WHITE FERNS captain Sophie Devine was the stand-out with the ball, taking 3-18 off her four overs.

At one stage the home side were in trouble at 82-5, but a spirited innings from Ashleigh Gardner - scoring 61 including three sixes - ensured the Australian side made it through to a competitive 138-6 on a slowing Allan Border Field wicket.

The WHITE FERNS reply lost Maddy Green in the fifth over cheaply and despite solid knocks from Devine (29), Suzie Bates (33) and some late hitting from Katey Martin (21), the run rate ultimately got away on the visitors.

The teams have a quick turnaround, contesting the second T20I tomorrow at Allan Border Field.
