Watkins and Burrows star for the Central Hinds

Aimee Watkins blasted 71 with Abby Burrow taking five wickets as the Central Hinds beat the Northern Spirit by 48 runs in a high scoring one day match at Cobham Oval in Whangarei.

Batting first the Hinds put on 285 with openers Esther Lanser (64) and Michele Frey (56) setting a solid platform with a 131 runs partnership.

Watkins then come in and hit the Northern attack to all parts with her 71 runs coming off 47 balls and included 10 boundaries and a six. Rachel Priest finished the innings off with a brisk unbeaten 34 off 17 to guarantee the large total.

The Spirit made a chase of it with Natalie Dodd making 68 before all rounder Nicola Browne lashed 93 off 83 to give them a sniff.  But when Browne was bowled by Burrows they were unable to kick on.

Burrows was outstanding taking big wickets at key times to ensure they defended their total.  The figures of five for 39 were her best return in women’s one day cricket.
