Defending Ford Trophy champions Canterbury finally got their first win of 2017/18 as round four of the one-day action, and a slew of BLACKCAPS, came to their assistance.

Away to the Volts in Dunedin at University of Otago Oval, Canterbury was invited to bowl by home captain Rob Nicol, the hosts recovering from a rocky start to reach 254 for nine.

Neil Broom’s 81 had been instrumental in resuscitating the innings from 38 for three, and Jimmy Neesham was impressive in his return to the team with a cracking 69 that included three bombs.
Quick Ed Nuttall had started the damage at the top and ended with 4-41, leading a disciplined attack.

Canterbury soon put the frighteners on the Volts in reply, Chad Bowes carrying his bat for a match-winning 112 with solid support from Michael Pollard (46), Henry Nicholls (36) and Tom Latham (an unbeaten 46).
The red and blacks were back on track, chasing down their target with more than five overs up their sleeve. They now head to Palmerston North for a big match against the top-of-the-table Stags 11am this Wednesday.
