NZ A cruise to comfortable win over England Lions

A well-paced century from James Marshall saw New Zealand A through to a six-wicket win over England A in the second one-day match at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth.

Chasing England's 284 for nine, New Zealand cruised through with nearly four overs to spare, finishing on 285 for four in the 47th over.

Marshall finished the day on an unbeaten 125 off 112 balls, including 11 fours, while captain Gareth Hopkins provided valuable support with 66 off 67.

England A's innings was built around a 102-run second-wicket partnership at a run-a-ball between opener Joe Denly and Jonathan Trott.

Denly became the first of spinner Nathan McCullum's victims when he was caught in the deep for 68 off 78 balls while Trott was run out soon afterwards by James Marshall for 48 off 51.

Wicketkeeper Ben Scott struck 31 and Wellington-contracted allrounder Graham Napier 22 to provide the late fireworks.

McCullum finished with the best figures of two for 41 while Brendon Diamanti snared two for 49 with his medium pace.

The teams will contest a Twenty20 international at Pukekura Park on Thursday to end England A's tour.
