Once the rain cleared, a 34-overs a side game was possible at Lincoln.

New Zealand XI upset West Indies

New Zealand Xl captain Maddy Green (74) and Central Hinds batswoman Anlo van Deventer (67) put on a 133-run partnership to help beat the West Indies women in their opening warm-up game at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln on Monday.

Scorecard

After rain reduced the game to 34-overs a side, the Windies posted a competitive 177-5 with contributions from most of their key players, including captain Stefanie Taylor (30).

WHITE FERN in-waiting Kate Heffernan impressed with the new ball, finishing with 1-28 from her six overs, while fellow opener Arlene Kelly also snared a wicket in her six-over effort.

The New Zealand XI reply got off to a rocky start with two wickets in the opening power-play.

Green and van Deventer came together at 28-2 and set about scoring freely, finding the boundary 16 times between them.

The pair knocked off the majority of the runs in good time, allowing Felicity Leydon-Davis and Jess Kerr to reach the target with two overs to spare and five wickets in hand.

The West Indies next face the Canterbury Magicians in Lincoln on Thursday, before opening the three-game ODI series against the WHITE FERNS on Sunday, March 4.
