Magicians weave their magic

It was third time lucky for the Canterbury Magicians in Rangiora after two frustrating washouts was followed by a six-wicket win over the Otago Sparks — in sweltering heat.

Scores

The Sparks, missing Suzie Bates on WBBL leave, had opted to bat first but it soon backfired, Morna Nielsen, Polly Inglis and Caitlin Blakely all gone cheaply inside the first 10 overs.

From 35 for three WHITE FERNS Leigh Kasperek and Katey Martin combined to stop the rot, and did a good job if it — Martin reaching 57 as the pair put on 75 for the fourth wicket.

Martin was caught off Olivia McGoverne in the 24th over, but Kasperek stuck around almost to the death for her 63.

A solid all-round game for Erin Bermingham. PHOTOSPORT

All out for 195 in the 48th, the tally never seemed enough at Mainpower Oval and the home side chased down the target with a full 10 overs in hand, Erin Bermingham backing up her 4-26 with a knock of 40 while Kate Ebrahim was the engine in their match-winning partnership, unbeaten on 61.
