The State Northern Knights glided to a six-wicket win over the State Canterbury Wizards as the clash of the State Championship cricket also-rans wound up in Christchurch today.
Northern registered their first outright points to improve from sixth to fourth on the standings, leaving Canterbury languishing in last place on just two points through six rounds.
There were few dramas on the final day at QEII Park Village Green as Northern knocked off the remaining 142 runs they needed for victory in 35.1 overs, losing three wickets in the process.
They finished on 173 for four, captain Michael Parlane hitting the winning single in the fourth over after lunch.
Parlane finished on 28 and Joseph Yovich a rapid 29, the pair making sure they wouldn't succumb lbw which was the fate of their four dismissed teammates.
Hamish Marshall resumed on 21 but he was trapped for 28 while opener Brad Wilson advanced from three to 40 to follow up his first innings century.
Canterbury paid the price for inconsistent batting, scoring just 246 in their first innings to concede a 137-run advantage. They collapsed yesterday to be dismissed for 309 after centuries to Michael Papps and Peter Fulton had them sitting pretty at 267 for two.
Northern teenager Kane Williamson grabbed five wickets with his off spin yesterday and contributed 35 with the bat today.

Day 3: Canterbury struggling despite Papps and Fulton centuries
The State Northern Knights are require a further 141 runs to win after bowling the State Canterbury Wizards out for 309 in their second innings on day three of the State Championship match at QEII Park in Christchurch.
The highlight of the Wizards innings was the 259 run third partnership between Michael Papps and Peter Fulton. Papps struck 128 with Fulton making 122.
There was very little else from the Wizards batting line-up with 12 being the next highest on the scorecard.
Eighteen year old Northern spinner Kane Williamson took a career best five for 75 including the wickets of Fulton and Papps.
The Knights faced ten overs at the end of the day and will resume tomorrow on 31 for one.
Day 2: Two hundred run partnership has Northern in control
Centuries from Brad Wilson and No 3 batsman Daniel Flynn have put State Northern Knights in a commanding position at the end of day two at QEII Park in Christchurch.
Their second wicket partnership was worth and incredible 209 runs with Wilson reaching 109 and Flynn 104.
Hamish Marshall fell just before tea two runs shy of his of his half-century with Kane Williamson making 53.
The Wizards rallied in the last session taking the last six wickets for 75 runs with Johannes Myburgh taking three for 71. Leighton Burtt, Hamish Bennett and Brandon Hiini picked up two apiece.
Canterbury will begin their second innings on eight for one – still 129 runs behind.
Day 1: Southee and Arnel get Knights on top
The State Northern Knights are 61 for one after bowling out the State Canterbury Wizard for 246 on the first day of their State Championship match at QEII Park in Christchurch.
Canterbury lost three early wickets after being put into bat before a 112 run fourth wicket partnership between Johannes Myburgh and Iain Robertson steadied the innings.
Myburgh reached 50 with Robertson going on to get 61. Further wickets fell in the afternoon session to have the Wizards struggling on 172 for 7 before Kruger van Wyk put some respectability into the scorecard by scoring 67 and nursing the tail through to 246.
Tim Southee has been the go-to bowler for the Knights attack picking up five for 43. New BLACKCAP Brent Arnel was also in good form as he warmed up for the upcoming Indian test series taking four for 38.
The Knights have made a steady start to their first innings and will resume tomorrow on 62 for one with Brad Wilson on 23 and Daniel Flynn on 29.
