Hearts clinch eight run win

The Wellington Blaze won the toss and put the Auckland Hearts in to bat.

This seemed like a very good decision as early wickets fell for the Hearts and they were teetering at 59 for four.

Resistance came from Katie Perkins who scored a fine 42 and an unbeaten 24 from Megan Tremaine, helping Auckland to a total of 165.

Elizabeth Perry took the tidy figures of three for 26 Wellington while Sophie Devine, who is second on the overall MVP table, chimed in with two scalps.

Wellington seemed to be following in Auckland’s’ footsteps as they too lost early wickets before Megan Wakefield struck a defiant 50 for the Blaze.

Sophie Devine (19) and Mindy Hodgson (29) also fought hard but they too fell at vital times to give the Hearts the advantage going into the final overs.

It was a nail biting end, with Auckland edging out Wellington by eight runs.

Holly Huddleston and Roseanne Cox each bowled extremely well, ending taking three wickets, while Megan Tremaine also contributed with two wickets.
