Blaze Beat Hearts by Three Runs

The decision to bat first back fired on the Wellington Blaze in their State League match against the Auckland Hearts at Melville Park in Auckland.

The opening pair of Lucy Doolan and Sarah Bradbury were back in the pavilion without a run on the board.

Things didn’t improve too much from there with wickets being lost at regular intervals and the only partnership of note being a 50 run effort for the ninth wicket between 18 year old Kerry-Anne Tomlinson and spin bower Anna Dodd.  This was a record ninth wicket State League partnership for Wellington against all opposition.

All of the Auckland bowler were tight with the key destroyer being Prashilla Mistry who took four for 27 off nine.  Natalee Scripts, Saskia Bullen and Shanna Coetzee took two apiece.

However, the in form Blaze team were able to defend their low total of 126 by bowling the Hearts out for 123, only three runs short of victory.

Auckland struggled throughout their innings and weren’t able to put together any partnerships or build momentum.

Sian Ruck took three for 20 of nine overs and Anna Dodd took three for 21 off the full ten in an all round accurate bowling display from the Aces.

This result cements the unbeaten Wellington Blaze firmly at the top of the table after three rounds of the competition.
