Colin de Grandhomme struck three big sixes to help the BLACKCAPS post 117 from their 20 overs at the SCG.

Australia too good in Tri Series opener

Australia has claimed the first victory in the Trans-Tasman Twenty20 International Tri-Series by beating the BLACKCAPS by seven wickets in a rain-revised run-chase at the SCG.

Scorecard

The hosts' showed their class with the ball by restricting the BLACKCAPS to just 117 from their 20 overs, with quick Billy Stanlake claiming the best T20I figures at the SCG of 3-15.

Colin de Grandhomme somewhat rescued the visitor's innings by smashing three big sixes to finish on 38* off 24 balls.
Rain delayed the start of the second innings, adjusting the Australian target to 95 runs off 15 overs.

The BLACKCAPS found some early joy as Tim Southee and Trent Boult picked up both openers in the first couple of overs.

However, the dangerous pairing of Chris Lynn (44 off 33) and Glenn Maxwell (40* off 24) ensured there'd be no hiccups for the hosts as the target was achieved with three and a half overs to spare.

The BLACKCAPS return home for a short break, before hosting England in Wellington on February 13th.
