Allrounder Mark Chapman began his international career in his birth country, Hong Kong, where he played frequently throughout high school while living in Auckland. But Auckland is where Chapman turned the heads of New Zealand selectors, by scoring an abundance of runs for the Auckland Aces in the 2017-18 season he proved himself worthy of a spot in the BLACKCAPS line-up, debuting in both T20I and ODI in February 2018.
Chapman’s tour with the BLACKCAPS in Scotland in 2022 was one for the memory books. He scored his highest T20I score, a remarkable 83*, contributing to New Zealand’s 102-run win and the team’s highest T20I total (254), and two days later, Chapman scored his first ODI century for New Zealand.
The reliable left-hand batsman is clinical and steady in his run-scoring approach and admits his fondness for a sweep shot which he became an expert in when playing in slower conditions growing up to secure boundaries.
After heading to his third T20 World Cup in September 2022, his first for New Zealand, Chapman received his central BLACKCAPS contract.
